Make New Haven safer for everyone!

Speed Management Strategies

Every Street Safer.
Every Journey Smarter.

Speed and red-light cameras are coming to New Haven

Over the next few months, the New Haven Traffic & Parking will work to install red-light and speed safety cameras throughout the city. These cameras work to deter speeding and red light running by recording photo and video evidence of traffic violations, automatically issuing citations to the registered vehicle owner in the mail. Cameras serve as a reminder to drivers that there is always a risk to getting caught speeding or running red lights. Respecting speed limits and following the rules of the road makes every route safer for all road users.

Speed Management Strategies

Speed management strategies have been implemented all over our city

New Haven prides itself in supporting active transportation, meaning that in addition to safe roads, we have provided the infrastructure so that every New Haven resident, of all ages and abilities, has the right to safely access jobs, public services, and other destinations without needing a car.

Our team has worked to bring neighborhoods and urban centers together, offering residents more access to jobs and a healthier overall quality of life.

Part of building this master plan has been identifying areas that need improvement, specifically related to:

Pavement Markings
Signage
Pedestrian Signals
Sidewalk Ramps

When it Comes to Serious Injury or Fatalities, Speed is a Major Factor

Speed management reduces the chances of traffic injuries and frequency of crashes, creating safe routes for pedestrians and bikers sharing the road with drivers.
